PBCers Organization

Primary Biliary Cholangitis (PBC) is an autoimmune liver disease that slowly destroys the intrahepatic bile ducts, and is more prevalent in women, 10 to 1. The PBCers Organization is a support system for people diagnosed with PBC. Founded in 1996, the PBCers Organization is a registered nonprofit 501 (c) (3) with no paid employees or board members. It is operated by all volunteers and has grown into the largest worldwide support group of its’ kind.

For over twenty years, the PBCers Organization has been offering support through various areas of online support such as our website, e-mail PBC daily digest, social media, conferences and local meetings. We also strive to help researchers learn the cause and find a cure for PBC by raising funds, creating public PBC awareness, and raising the level of organ donor awareness. In 2014, the PBCers Organization joined a worldwide name change initiative to give PBC a name that better fit the disease, and help remove some of the cirrhosis stigmas. The name Primary Biliary Cholangitis (PBC) was approved in September 2015.
